The majority of Chinese students applying for master's degrees overseas in 2018 major in engineering, management and economics, according to a report.

The Report on Chinese Students' Overseas Study was based on a survey of around 5,000 students who plan to go to school abroad or were previously overseas students, their parents and some employers, in more than 40 cities across China in February and March.

Among applicants, 24 percent majored in engineering, 16 percent in management, and 15 percent in economics.

The figures are similar to those of 2017 -- engineering (23 percent), management (14 percent) and economics (15 percent).

Of male applicants of master's degree overseas, 37 percent majored in engineering, 15 percent in economics, 12 in management and 9 percent in science, the report showed.

Of female applicants, 18 percent majored in management, 16 percent in economics, 13 in engineering and 9 percent in language.

The report was jointly released by New Oriental Vision Overseas and Kantar Millward Brown.
