Hong Kong police said Thursday a woman was charged with two counts of murder and two counts of shooting with intent over a recent gun attack in an urban park in Hong Kong.
The 44-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after opening fire and injuring four people in Quarry Bay Park on Hong Kong Island. The police seized a semi-automatic pistol and many bullets from her.
Two of the four victims died after being rushed to hospital.
Investigations showed that the four victims are siblings and the woman is their niece. The police said the woman's motive could be related to family disputes over money.
The case was mentioned at Eastern Magistrates' Courts Thursday afternoon and the woman appeared in court.
Prosecutors asked the court for more time to run tests on the gun and bullets, as well as two knives and a cutter that police seized when the suspect was arrested.
The court then adjourned the case to September.
The shooting, rare in Hong Kong, has prompted attention to how the suspect obtained the gun in spite of Hong Kong's strict control on firearms.
