According to the Beijing Municipal Major Projects Office, the main structure of the Cigezhuang Station, a major part of the first phase of the Beijing New Airport Line, has been successfully completed recently.
This is the second of all three stations planned along the route of the Beijing New Airport Line, after the completion of the new airport's North Terminal Station. With its construction now entering the final phase, the Beijing New Airport Line is scheduled to be put into trial operation in September 2019.
According to the Major Projects Office, the maximum speed of the Beijing New Airport Line is 160 kilometers per hour while the actual travel speed will be set at 110 kilometers per hour. It will take only 19 minutes from Caoqiao station to the new airport.
In common with the design of high speed trains, the trains of the New Airport Line will consist of seven passenger carriages and one luggage carriage, with a maximum capacity of 448 people. All passenger carriages are equipped with seats and large roof racks to maximize storage space.
The total length of the first phase of the Beijing New Airport Line is 41.36 km, including 23.65 km of tunnels and U-shaped grooves and 17.71 km of elevated and roadbed sections. The line runs through Fengtai district and Daxing district with three stations from north to south: Caoqiao, Cigezhuang and the North Terminal Station. The line transfers at Caoqiao Station to Line 10, which is already in operation, and Line 19, which is currently under construction.
The line will also eventually extend northward from Caoqiao Station to the Lize Business District, where an aviation service building will be set up to transfer passengers to Line 14 and Line 16, both of which are under construction.
