The Shanghai municipal government released its three-year action plan (2018-20) on Monday regarding the city's garbage classification.

According to the plan, the city is projected to increase its daily waste disposal amount from 13,300 tons to 32,800 tons by 2020. Local households will also be able to classify their garbage correctly into four categories: dry, wet, recyclable and harmful.

"We are stepping up efforts to spread the knowledge of garbage classification to families and schools," said Huang Rong, deputy secretary-general of the Shanghai municipal government. "We are also perfecting regulations and strengthening supervision to guarantee the implementation of the plan."

The plan also includes the blueprint for the construction of waste disposal facilities in three years, including renovating more than 17,000 garbage bins and 41 large-scale waste transfer stations.
