Chinese ride-sharing company Didi Chuxing announced Sunday the suspension of its carpooling "Hitch" service nationwide after a female passenger was killed by her driver.
The suspension will start from Monday, according to a statement by the company.
The 20-year-old female passenger, surnamed Zhao, was raped and murdered by her ride-sharing driver in Yueqing, east China's Zhejiang Province on Friday afternoon, in the second such case in a few months.
Didi said the suspect had no criminal record and registered with the company using official documents but was using a fake car plate when committing the crime.
