Chinese Will Storage held an open day on Monday in Beijing, the capital of China, which attracted approximately 7,500 elderly people who waited in line to apply to the Beijing China Will Registration Center (CWRC).
According to Beijing Youth Daily, it will take 12 months to register the making of wills and so a large number of old people applied at once. Yin Yanhe, a director of Beijing China Will Registration Center explained why it took so long in an interview with Beijing Youth Daily.
More and more people are making wills as the property management has become an increasingly large issue in China. However, there is only one will registration center in Beijing and 140 apply to it each day, however the center has a regulation for how many it can process at once, meaning only 15 to 20 elderly people can get the service to make their wills in per day.
"The entire process of making a will takes about two hours. During it, they will verify their identity, consult on the will and hand-write it, assess any spiritual considerations and then, finally register it. Older people will spend more time on the process. It is also why we reduced the number of people who make a testament in a day,” Yin Yanhe said.
In order to save time when making a will, Chinese Will Storage launched a policy of allowing basic personal information and general terms to be printed instead of handwritten. Now the applicant can just write the key part, which will save a lot of time.
Mrs. Zhang, who lives in Beijng, experienced the new policy at Chinese Will Storage on Monday. Some basic personal information on her will has been printed out, including information about Zhan’s family. The rest of the key information, however, must be handwritten by her.
According to Yin Yanhe, “It was easy for elders to write their ID number down wrong, and now it gets printed in advance, which really improves the accuracy of the personal information. This policy reduced the burden of having to handwrite everything and also helps our staff save a lot of time.”
