A court in northwest China's Shaanxi Province Wednesday handed down sentences to 11 defendants on charges of illegal production of explosives that caused a blast which killed 15 people in 2016.
The intermediate people's court in the city of Yulin sentenced three defendants to death and another two face death penalties with a two-year reprieve.
One defendant was given life imprisonment, while the remaining five were given imprisonment ranging from seven years to 15 years.
According to the court, the defendants produced the explosives in five prefab houses in Xinmin Township, Fugu County. The explosives caused a blast which killed 15 people and injured more than 100.
