No casualties have been reported after a magnitude 5.7 earthquake jolted the county of Xingwen in Yibin City, Sichuan Province, at 12:46 p.m. Sunday (Beijing Time), according to the local government.
The epicenter was monitored at 28.24 degrees north latitude and 104.95 degrees east longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 12 km, the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) said.
The quake was also felt in Yibin and several other nearby cities, including Chengdu and Chongqing.
Residents in Yibin felt strong tremors, and some houses in rural areas suffered damage.
According to the provincial earthquake bureau, the epicenter is 64 km away from downtown Yibin and 215 km from Chongqing.
