Vibrant fireworks, dazzling lighting effects and popular musical performances will illuminate Victoria Harbor on Dec. 31 during Hong Kong's New Year countdown celebrations, said Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) on Wednesday.
Countdown celebrations this year will include rich and varied activities introduced by HKTB. Kick-off performances will start from 11:00 p.m. on Tsim Sha Tsui.
At the same time, pyrotechnic "shooting stars" will be emitted every 15 minutes from three buildings on Hong Kong Island. Visitors can make wishes upon the shooting stars in four colors, namely red, green, gold and silver, symbolizing love, happiness, wealth and good health respectively.
A 10-minute pyromusical will start above the radiant Victoria Harbor when the clock strikes midnight. Striking fireworks will change in form, color and speed in accordance with soundtrack, giving the spectators a sensational experience.
The visual picture consists of five layers created by fireworks: pyrotechnics launched from barges, the numerals "2019" and new year blessings displayed on the facade of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, lighting effects from buildings and landmarks, rooftop fireworks, and fireworks high in the sky above Victoria Harbor.
To visitors' surprise, award-winning fireworks by an Italian maker will be introduced to create a "Celestial Kaleidoscope" for the first time. Ever-changing and varicolored fireworks patterns will shatter above Victoria Harbor like beautiful patterns in a kaleidoscope.
And as a grand finale, 45 different patterns of fireworks including flowers, candies, smiley faces and hearts will be projected within last single minute.
New Year countdown celebrations this year is expected to attract 360,000 visitors who will enjoy a spectacular scenery from Tsim Sha Tsui, Central and Wan Chai in Hong Kong.
