Hotel in Peru hijacked, no Chinese casualties

A hotel in the Madre de Dios Region of Peru was attacked on Tuesday night local time. No Chinese death has been reported there so far according to the Chinese embassy in Peru.

Some 10 gunmen escaped the Inkaterra Hotel after killing a Peruvian tour guide.

Tourists from a Hong Kong travel group, 41 Chinese citizens in total, were staying in the hotel when the incident happened.

Though there were no Chinese casualties, criminals reportedly took away a tourist's passport.

The embassy immediately launched its emergency response mechanism and will continue to follow up on developments.

The Chinese embassy in Peru reminds Chinese citizens in Peru to raise their safety awareness. If an emergency happens, please report to local police and contact the Chinese Embassy in Peru or the Global Emergency Call Center for Consular Protection and Services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
