An explosion ripped through an industrial park in the city of Yancheng, east China's Jiangsu Province, Thursday afternoon, with casualties unknown, local authorities said.
A Xinhua reporter at the site said there were workers trapped after their factory buildings, close to the blast-hit factory, were knocked down by the shockwave.
The government of Xiangshui county said the explosion happened at about 2:48 p.m. following a fire in a fertilizer factory in a chemical industrial park.
Witnesses said many workers were seen running out of the factory covered in blood after the blast, which also shattered windows of many nearby residential houses.
