China Friday urged the United Kingdom to respect China's sovereignty and stop meddling in Hong Kong affairs and interfering in China's internal affairs in any form.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang made the remarks at a press briefing in response to Britain's latest "Six-Monthly Report on Hong Kong," which was released on Thursday.
Geng reiterated that "Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs and brook no interference by any foreign government, organization or individual."
China expresses strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to the U.K. government's so-called six-monthly report on Hong Kong and its wrong behavior of making irresponsible remarks on Hong Kong affairs, Geng said.
Since Hong Kong's return to China, the Chinese government has been strictly following the Constitution as well as the Basic Law and the principles of "one country, two systems," and "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong" with a high degree of autonomy have been implemented earnestly, Geng said, adding this is a fact that can not be denied by anyone without bias.
"The Chinese government's determination to comprehensively and accurately implement the 'one country, two systems' policy is unshakable as is its determination to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests and Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability," he said.
The British side has no sovereignty or any governing or supervising rights over Hong Kong, he said. "Hong Kong is China's Hong Kong. We urge the British side to face the facts, respect China's sovereignty, stop releasing such reports and stop meddling in Hong Kong affairs and interfering in China's internal affairs in any form."
