Making sure your apartment or your savings go to the person of your choice after you die is easy enough: Write a will detailing who inherits what. But many 20- and 30-somethings, who might not have lots of material possessions, are already planning to pass on their life's achievements they've made in the digital realm.
An online report that was sparked by a 20-something man who bequeathed his videogame and Alipay accounts to his loved ones, has sparked 6 million online discussions.
In the report by CCTV, another young man from South China's Shenzhen says "I have spent a lot of time and money on my video game account, so why can't I pass on those things in my will?"
Many netizens said it's normal and necessary to include their digitial legacy in their wills, as many young people have spent years building reputations in the digital world.
"My game account will be my legacy to my grandson," joked a netizen, who is likely too young to have a child.
WeChat and Alipay now allow relatives to inherit a deceased person's digital legacy in accordance with the law, thepaper.cn reported.
