Workers in Beijing finished the construction of a new mask factory Saturday to meet the surging demand amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Located at the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, the factory was constructed by the China Construction First Group in just six days -- the fastest construction pace of a mask factory in Beijing.
It is expected to produce 250,000 masks per day after being put into operation.
Construction on the project, which covers 1,070 square meters, usually lasts a month, according to Song Chao, a project manager with the company.
As China battles the epidemic, masks have been in great demand by medical workers, disease control personnel and the public.
The government has encouraged medical supply manufacturers to step up production among other measures to fill in the supply gap.
