The municipality was declared clear of confirmed cases of COVID-19 on March 17, when its last pneumonia patient was discharged from the hospital 55 days after the virus broke out in the city.
According to the city's health commission, Chongqing had a total of 576 confirmed cases of the disease, with six deaths and 570 recovered.
The city of 30 million people had faced a serious challenge to control the epidemic, as it has close transportation ties to Wuhan, Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak.
