The number of COVID-19 cases around the world hit 1,414,738, with 81,259 fatalities, as of 7:10 a.m. BJT on Wednesday, according to Johns Hopkins University.
The U.S. has confirmed having at least 387,547 cases and 12,291 deaths. U.S. President Donald Trump meanwhile has threatened to withdraw funding from the World Health Organization (WHO).
New York state overtook Italy on Tuesday in the number of overall cases, becoming second in the world only to Spain. The state has 138,836 reported cases and lost 731 lives to COVID-19 from Monday to Tuesday, bringing the its death toll to 5,489.
Spain has 140,510 cases. It reported 743 deaths on Tuesday, bringing the total number of deaths to 13,798.
The death toll in Italy continued to rise – 604 deaths on Tuesday, making 17,127 in total. The country's total number of cases has reached 135,586.
France has officially registered more than 10,000 deaths, becoming the fourth country to cross that threshold after Italy, Spain and the United States.
