A new confirmed case of the Ebola virus disease was reported on Friday in the city of Beni, North Kivu Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), two days ahead of the planned official declaration of the end to the outbreak, according to the health authorities.
The response coordination team said the confirmed case is a 26-year-old man living in Beni.
The team with the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), are already on the ground to deepen the investigation and take public health actions.
The announcement of the new case comes as the DRC and WHO are preparing to declare the end of the Ebola outbreak in two days.
Since the start of the Ebola outbreak in the DRC, the cumulative number of cases reached 3,453 and there were 2,273 deaths as of Thursday night.
