The central Chinese city of Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, and the western U.S. city of Los Angeles held a video conference on Tuesday to share experience on reopening cities and resuming business under the premise of effective prevention and control of the pandemic.
China's Foreign Ministry briefed reporters about the two-hour-meeting during Tuesday's press conference, saying that the two sides had effective communication.
The risk of outbreaks has been reduced, and production and life are gradually returning to normal in Wuhan, said foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang.
Wuhan, once the hardest-hit city by COVID-19, has been classified as a low-risk area of the outbreak as the city has met the criteria of no newly confirmed cases for the last 14 days, according to the latest assessment released Saturday by local authorities.
Wuhan lifted outbound travel restrictions on April 8 after almost 11 weeks of lockdown to stem the spread of COVID-19.
Geng added that at the request of U.S. cities and institutions, Chinese provinces, municipalities and medical institutions have been sharing experience with the U.S. through video on epidemic prevention and control measures, as well as treatment plans.
China is willing to continue the exchanges and provide support within capability to help American people win the fight and back to the normal life, he added.
