Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has tightened the management of personnel flow after clusters of new COVID-19 infections were reported.
People arriving at Urumqi from high-risk areas will be put under centralized medical observation for a fortnight. Those from middle-risk areas must have green health codes and carry proof of negative results from a nucleic acid test conducted within seven days, and they will also be tested for nucleic acid upon arrival, Song Yajun, Urumqi's deputy mayor, told a press conference on Thursday.
Locals who are returning from middle-and-low risk areas to Urumqi should contact their community in advance and prepare proof of negative nucleic acid test results.
In principle, locals are required not to leave the city, if it is not necessary.
Non-locals, who have stayed in Urumqi for at least 14 days from July 17 onwards, must carry green health codes and proof of both negative results of a nucleic acid test and an antibody test, conducted within seven days before leaving the city.
Those who have to leave should apply to the community of their residence and submit relevant materials. They will be escorted to the airport, railway, or bus station by designated vehicles for free. Their body temperatures, health codes, and proof of both negative nucleic acid test and antibody test results will be checked before leaving.
By Wednesday, Xinjiang had reported 414 confirmed COVID-19 cases after new infections emerged in mid-July, 412 of which were in Urumqi.
