The total COVID-19 hospitalizations rose to 7,559 on Sunday in New York State, compared with 7,183 on Saturday, tweeted Governor Andrew Cuomo on Monday.
The state's COVID-19 hospitalizations topped 6,000 on Dec. 15 and has remained above the level ever since.
Cuomo once warned that a post-Christmas hike of the coronavirus hospitalizations was expected, because people would usually gather during the holiday, which could fuel the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, of the 124,866 COVID-19 tests reported on Sunday in the state, 10,407 were positive, or 8.33 percent of the total, up from 5.85 percent one day earlier, added the governor.
"Vaccination Update: Approximately 140,000 New Yorkers to date have received one dose of the #COVID vaccine," Cuomo said in another tweet.
"The vaccination priority populations are expanding this week to include Urgent Care Center employees, individuals administering the COVID-19 vaccines, residents of OASAS (Office of Addiction Services and Supports) facilities," he added.
As of Monday noon, the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University reported 37,411 coronavirus deaths in New York State, the worst in the country.
