Shenyang, the capital city of northeast China's Liaoning Province, classified another five areas as medium-risk zones for COVID-19 on Friday.
Four areas in the city's Huanggu District and one neighborhood in Tiexi District were identified as medium-risk areas, local health authorities told a press briefing on epidemic prevention and control.
On Dec. 23, 2020, the city reported its first locally transmitted case during Liaoning's recent sporadic COVID-19 outbreaks. From then to Thursday, the city recorded 18 confirmed cases and two asymptomatic cases.
On Thursday, Shenyang started conducting nucleic acid tests for all its residents in nine districts. As of 10 a.m. on Friday, about 1.14 million people had been sampled. Currently, 643,600 people have been tested negative for the coronavirus and the rest of the results are yet to arrive.
