Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on Monday announced a fresh lockdown in the British region from midnight, ordering people to stay at home until the end of January amid "very serious" coronavirus concerns.
Sturgeon made the announcement after the Scottish parliament, known as Holyrood, was recalled to discuss further measures due to "a rapid increase in COVID cases" causing "very serious concerns".
Sturgeon described the situation as "extremely serious" and said the new lockdown would come into force from midnight on Monday and last for the "duration of January".
