The death toll from the overturned passenger ship in southwest China's Guizhou Province has risen to 10, local authorities told China Media Group.
Five passengers remain missing, according to local authorities.
The accident happened at 4:50 p.m. on Saturday in the Zangke River in Zangke Township, Liupanshui City.
As of 8:10 a.m. on Sunday, 39 people were rescued from the river. Eight people have died since then, and the remaining 31 are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The ship was designed to carry up to 40 people. Authorities are still checking the exact number of passengers onboard at the time of the accident.
A rescue operation and an investigation into the cause of the accident are underway.
