Ma Aijun, head of Lubei district branch of Tangshan public security bureau in Tangshan, Hebei province, has been under disciplinary and supervisory investigation, an official statement said on Tuesday. He is also the district's deputy head.
He is under investigation in relation to the case where a restaurant in the district saw four women assaulted by a group of men on June 10.
Including Ma, some police involved in the case and other related cases are suspected of committing serious violations of discipline and law, said the statement by Hebei Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision.
The other four are Hu Bin, head of Jichanglu police station; Chen Zhiwei, a police of the station in question; Han Zhiyong, deputy head of Changhongdao police affairs station; and Fan Lifeng, the former head of Guangmingli police station. They are all under disciplinary and supervisory investigation, the statement said.
The investigations are carried out by designated commissions for discipline inspection and supervision from a different region than the place they stayed.
Two female victims in the case , are now under treatment at regular wards of a local hospital, with their situations improving, said a statement by the Department of Public Security Bureau of Hebei on Tuesday.
The two in the hospital, 31-year-old Wang and Liu, 29, have been assessed with minor injuries of second level, while the other two, 24-year-old woman surnamed Yuan and 29 -year-old woman surnamed Li, have been identified with slightly less intense injuries, according to judicial values. The other two were not hospitalized.
The four women were beaten by a group of men on the early hours of June 10 when they were dining at a local barbecue restaurant. One of them, surnamed Wang, was harassed by a man surnamed Chen and they were beaten by them after she rejected the harassment.
