The central government has activated emergency response to Typhoon Gaemi, which has severely affected East China's Fujian province after making its second landfall in the province on Thursday night.

Typhoon Gaemi, the third typhoon of the year, which weakened to severe tropical storm around 9 pm on Thursday, will move from Fujian to its neighboring Jiangxi province on Friday afternoon or evening, and then keep its northward movement, according to the National Meteorological Center.

The center issued an orange, the second-highest typhoon warning, on Friday morning.

According to the center's latest forecast, China's eastern provinces and cities including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi and Fujian will see moderate gale wind from Friday morning to Saturday morning.

Some eastern and southern provinces and regions such as Taiwan, Fujian and Zhejiang will be hit by torrential rains or rainstorms during the period, the center said.

The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has sent working teams to typhoon-stricken areas on Thursday to guide and assist the local authorities to relocate the residents.
