The authorities of Mount Heng in Hengyang, Central China's Hunan province announced on Saturday that it will offer free tickets to a freshman for helping a tourist who was in danger while climbing Mount Hua in Northwest China's Shaanxi province during the National Day holiday this year.

Zhu Wei, a freshman at the Xiangyang Auto Vocational Technical College in Hunan, bought 15 train tickets to embark on his brave journey of climbing the country's Five Great Mountains in five days during the National Day holiday.

China's Five Great Mountains include Mount Tai in Shandong province, Mount Hua in Shaanxi province, Mount Song in Henan province, Mount Heng in Shanxi province and Mount Heng in Hunan.

However, his journey took a drastic turn on his first leg when he climbed Mount Hua around 7 am on Oct 1 and a tourist, Li Han, suddenly fell to the ground and lost consciousness.

Zhu contacted Li's family and assisted him to the hospital with the help of staff members of the scenic spot. Zhu offered an advance payment of 1,500 yuan ($210.92) for Li's medical expenses and accompanied him the whole way for medical treatment at the hospital until Li's family members arrived later that afternoon.

However, Zhu missed his train to another scenic spot and therefore, had to abandon his bold journey of climbing the five famous mountains and was refunded his remaining 12 train tickets.

After learning that Zhu was a college student, Li Han's brother, Li Chun, went to Zhu's college and visited him on Oct 14 to convey his gratitude by presenting him with a banner for saving his brother's life.

"At that moment, I didn't think about anything else. I can always climb the Five Great Mountains later. If I hadn't saved him and something had happened, I would regret it for the rest of my life," Zhu said.

To honor Zhu's bravery, other scenic areas of the Five Great Mountains have also announced their intention to provide Zhu with free tickets to support him in completing his Five Great Mountains hiking challenge.

Zhu said he might continue the challenge during the coming winter vacation.
