China's comprehensive transportation capabilities have significantly improved, with modern standards in some areas now ranking among the best in the world, according to the Ministry of Transportation on Thursday.

The country's integrated transportation network has expanded to over 6 million kilometers, enhancing service capabilities. Last year, China managed 61.3 billion cross-regional trips. The express delivery sector saw substantial growth, handling 162.48 billion parcels. These figures underscore China's strength in global transport efficiency, greatly benefiting passengers and cargo delivery effectiveness, said Wu Chungeng, chief planner of the Ministry of Transport, at a news conference in Beijing on Thursday.

Wu noted significant advancements in technological innovation. Major projects such as the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Cross-Sea Bridge have been constructed and are now operational. Breakthroughs in transportation equipment have also been achieved, highlighted by the launch of the "Fuxing" high-speed trains and the domestically produced C919 aircraft. The rise of smart transportation and emerging business models further demonstrates China's commitment to technological progress.

The push for a green and low-carbon transportation system has gained momentum as well. Currently, the electrification rate of China's railways stands at 75.2 percent, with about half of the world's new energy vehicles found in the country. The electrification rate of airports exceeds 60 percent, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainable development, Wu stated.

He also emphasized China's deepening international cooperation, particularly through the successful hosting of the second United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference. Initiatives such as the Global Sustainable Transport Innovation Alliance are fostering global partnerships and enhancing China's role in international transportation governance.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of China issuing its national strategic outline for building a strong transportation country. Over the past five years, significant achievements have been made in the development of the transportation industry through pilot projects and innovative practices.

Looking ahead, the focus will remain on deepening reforms to ensure the sustainable and stable development of China's transportation sector, aiming for a robust and resilient future, Wu said.
