Beijing will launch a customized shuttle bus service between the city and Xiong'an New Area in neighboring Hebei province on Friday to meet the increasing commuting needs of people traveling between the two places.
Xiong'an New Area, established in April 2017, is located about 100 kilometers southwest of downtown Beijing. One of its missions is to receive non-capital functions from Beijing that are not essential to its role as the capital, promoting the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
The new shuttle bus comes as growing numbers of Beijing residents have begun working in Xiong'an or have businesses there, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport on Thursday.
To strategically position the stops, the commission has guided related platforms in conducting in-depth investigations into the commuting demands of central enterprises, universities and hospitals in Xiong'an.
According to a preliminary plan, the Beijing-Xiong'an shuttle bus will have three boarding and drop-off points in Beijing and four in Xiong'an.
The initial departure times from Beijing will be Fridays, Sundays and Mondays, while the departure times from Xiong'an will be Fridays and Mondays, it said.
The routes, stops and departure times will be dynamically adjusted based on the actual needs of passengers, according to the commission.
