Roller skater Guo Dan grabbed the first gold medal at the 3rd Asian Beach Games on Sunday.
Guo, 22, claimed the women's 10,000 meters points title for China. She won a winning total of 18 points after spending most of the time staying between third and fourth places and surging to the lead in the final lap.
South Korea' s Woo Hyo Sook, 2010 Asian Games gold medalist, finished runner-up with 16 points. Yang Ho-Chen from Chinese Taipei secured a bronze medal.
Guo said she owed her victory to her supportive 17-year-old teammate Li Lisha, who finished in the sixth place.
"She helped me greatly in fending off the other's blockade and scoring most of the points. Our strategy worked," she said.
Guo took a sliver medal in the women's 10,000 meters points and elimination race at the Asian Games two years ago.
Roller skating is contested for the first time in the 3rd Asian Beach Games.
Guo will also compete in the women' s 20,000 meters elimination on Monday.
