Anahi Florencia Tosi got the team-high 10 points for Argentina as they came into the match having never beaten China, while Florencia Natasha Busquets Reyes contributed 6 points.
Earlier on the day, Japan defeated Italy 3-2 by 20-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23 and 15-11.
China will face Japan on Wednesday, while Argentina are to take on Italy.
The Volleyball Nations League is a new idea from the FIVB, the sport's international governing body. The annual women's international volleyball tournament is contested by 16 national teams and replaces the World Grand Prix.
