China's unbeaten run continued in diving at the Asian Games in Jakarta on Friday as Wang Han snatched gold in the women's 1m springboard and Xie Siyi won in the men's 3m springboard.
Wang, silver medalist four years ago in Incheon, dominated the event and scored a total of 323.55 points and her teammte Chen Yiwen finished second at 306.50. Kim Su-Ji of South Korea came to third place in 265.35.
"I set a goal for myself before the final that I want to break the 300-point barrier. I never did it before but I achieved my goal now. I am satisfied," smiled Wang, who will compete in the 3m springboard on Sept. 1
Only Gao Min in 1990 and Wu Minxia in 2006 swept both gold medals in 1m and 3m springboard at the same edition of the Asian Games.
China so far wrapped up top two in the 1m springboard on offer at all five editions of Asian Games in 1990, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018).
In a battle of the reigning world champion and defending champion, Xie Siyi was the one who laughed at the last in the men's 3m springboard at the Asian Games here on Friday, beating teammate Cao Yuan for the title.
Cao, Rio Olympic champion, led the first four rounds before Xie had a day-high 407B (inward 3 and 1/2 somersaults) 105.45 points and claimed the victory with a total of 560.80. The defending champion Cao had to concede to a silver medal with 540.05 and Chew Y of Malaysia collected the bronze in 456.20.
China has won each of the 12 gold medals in the men's 3m springboard at the Asian Games (1974-2018) and has so far wrapped up all 8 gold medals in Jakarta.
The women's 3m springboard and men's 10m platform will be the last two diving competitions at Asiad on Saturday.
