Vietnam is poised to receive nearly 1.9 million visitors from China in the first half of this year, posting a year-on-year surge of 56.7 percent, and accounting for 30.4 percent of the total foreign arrivals to the country.

Vietnam is estimated to host 6.2 million international arrivals in the first half of this year, up 30.2 percent, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism on Tuesday.

The number of visitors from other countries and regions to Vietnam have so far this year increased considerably, including Russia (up 53.4 percent), South Korea (43.9 percent), Cambodia (35.5 percent) and Spain (28.6 percent).

Among the 6.2 million visitors, 5.2 million came to Vietnam by air, up 33 percent.

Vietnam is actively promoting its major tourist sites in Chinese cities and cooperating with local authorities to handle poorly-performing travel agencies, hoping to lure some 4 million Chinese visitors this year, said the administration, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Last year, Vietnam received over 10 million foreign visitors, including 2.7 million Chinese tourists, posting respective increases of 26 percent and 51.4 percent.
