The organizers for Beijing Design Week, the annual design festival in Beijing that often falls at the end of September, announced they will host a number of events in the capital's neighboring Hebei Province for the very first time in a press release Monday.
A series of design activities will be held in Baigou, Baoding city in North China's Hebei Province from September 21 to 23. Roughly 150 kilometers southwest of Beijing, the township used to be a hub for bag and suitcase manufacturing.
However, Baigou now aims to build itself into a center for design as well as end products. Working with Beijing Design Week, the local government will host design forums and resident projects, as well as a public exhibition called Art Park.
The new Hedao Co-creation Designer In Residence Program will select 10 young designers from home and abroad to take part in the Star Workshop program, which will help candidates turn their designs into real products.
According to the press release, the local government is also encouraging designers to open studios in Baigou so they can help educate local talents about design and fashion.
Art Park will be the first public art exhibition ever held in Baigou.
A part of the well-known art expo Art Beijing's public art section, Art Park will showcase artworks from 10 renowned artists in China "to help people find the real beauty in life through simple but meaningful works."
