China's Sanya was on the list of 52 Places to Go in 2018 selected lately by the New York Times.
Sanya, a coastal city in south China's Hainan Province, boasts beautiful views and rich folk culture.
It is the 13th straight year that the New York Times presents its annual Places to Go list.
What makes the 2018 list different is that the newspaper wants to hire a journalist to go to every destination on the list and tell the story of each place, according to the Sanya Municipal Publicity Department.
Relaxation was the standard for the 2017 list, and the safety of a place, a top concern.
Therefore, the destinations on the list are mostly ideal places suitable for family travel, the department believed.
