Most of the tickets for ice events at the ninth edition of the Asian Winter Games in Harbin, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, have already been sold, the organizers announced at a press conference on Wednesday.
Less than three weeks remain until more than 1,270 athletes from 34 Asian nations and regions head to China to participate in 64 events across 11 disciplines covering six sports. The first of the 186 competitions will get underway on February 3, and the home country's athletes will make their first appearance on February 4.
A total of 64 golds will be up for grabs, with the first winner being decided on February 8. Ice events will take place in Harbin, while snow events will be held in Yabuli.
To ensure a smooth and secure Asian Winter Games, the organizers scheduled a total of 17 test events for all sports at all venues, with 14 having already wrapped up.
Moreover, since snow events in the open air are susceptible to the elements, more than 30 weather experts have been hired in Yabuli to help working staff respond to the conditions in real-time.
