A Chinese fishing boat -- carrying 31 people -- was detained by police in Argentina last week, according to a statement by the Chinese Embassy in Argentina.
The boat coded "Hushunyu 809" belonged to a fishery company in Zhoushan city, in east China's Zhejiang Province. It was seized by local maritime police inside the Argentine Exclusive Economic Zone on April 6.
Fresh fish were found on deck and inside the cabins. The police also found that the boat had engine problems. With the help of a tugboat, it was towed to Puerto Madryn, in southern Argentina's Chubut Province.
The Chinese Embassy has asked Argentina to guarantee the safety of the Chinese crew members and urged them to discharge the boat as soon as possible.
