Shanghai's first "self-service bookstore" says over a third of the discounted books have been stolen during the first three months of operation.
The bookstore is pretty much a bookshelf without any shop assistant around. Customers can choose whatever book they want and put the money of a third of the labeled price into a box.
The owner says they should got 15,000 yuan for the 2,000 books sold, while they only collected 7,000 yuan in the box.
But still, the bookshop says it doesn't plan to arrange more shop assistants or surveillance cameras because it believes the situation will improve.
