The cold snap has gripped Hong Kong, with residents shivering as temperatures plunged to the lowest point in nearly 60 years.
Morning temperatures dropped to about 3 degrees Celsius in urban areas, where most buildings lack central heating. Rain in the early morning hours further added to the cold. In the downtown area, Causeway bay, temperatures plunged to 4 Celsius at noon. At Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong's tallest mountain, frost chasers who braved the cold saw "rain with small ice pellets" rather than snow. 85 people were reported suffering from hypothermia. Among them, 43 were hospitalized and one is in critical condition.
