On the other hand, in south China's Pearl River Delta cities, hundreds of thousands of migrant workers are choosing to ride motorcycles back home. Though the cold snap made the journey harder, some early birds have started the journey on Sunday.
It's 8 in the morning in Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province and many migrant workers are already making their way back home on motorcycle.
They are well-prepared for the rainy weather, and have even wrapped up their luggage with water-proof materials.
"We're headed for Guangxi. It was clear when we started the journey, but here, it's rainy. We put on more clothes."
Driving along the roads, more and more motorcycle riders can be seen. The rainy weather brings trouble, but compared to the riders' eagerness to get home, it's not a big deal.
"I have been working for 6, almost 7 years. At the end of the year, I'm always eager to get back home as soon as possible, after I've been working all year."
"We bring home some snacks and toys for the kids. They called to say 'we miss you dad and mum'. And also we miss our own parents."
Luckily, assistance can be found along the way. A sip of hot water and a short rest in a heated pavilion are being organized by the government.
Free medical treatment, food, and gifts will be offered at the service stations. Motorcycle maintenance stations can be found at the service stops as well.
