When interviewed during the "two sessions", Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for all sides involved in the Korean Peninsula issue to do what they can to defuse the tension. He says the recent UN Security Council Resolution 22-70 is key to the process. [Special Coverage]
"We are communicating with all parties of the Korean Peninsula issue. Resolution 22-70 includes measures and necessary sanctions. It also supports the restoration of the Six-Party Talks and the resolution of the problem through political and diplomatic ways," he said.
"We think Resolution 22-70 needs to be fully and comprehensively implemented.... None of the parties should take any action to worsen the current situation. This has also been included in Resolution 22-70."
Wang Yi also addressed the South China Sea issue. He says military posturing there jeopardizes regional stability.
"Generally speaking, the current situation in the South China Sea is stable. The freedom of navigation has not been affected, in fact, not even one ship has reported any interference. We don't want foreign countries to come to the South China Sea to show off military forces. That will harm the stability in the region," he said.
