Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi has met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, extending Chinese President Xi's greetings to his American counterpart.
The Chinese diplomat discussed the future of bilateral ties, and said China is willing to cooperate with the United States on various regional and global issues. Trump, for his part, said his administration values its ties with China.
Yang, the first senior Chinese official to visit the U.S. since Trump took office on January 20, also met with other senior officials, such as the new U.S. National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster, and White House chief strategist Steve Bannon.
