A framework for the Code of Conduct (COC) in the South China Sea was approved at a senior officials' meeting by China and 10 ASEAN member states in Guiyang, southwest China's Guizhou Province on Thursday.
Over 100 senior officials from these countries attended the meeting. They approved the framework, stressing that it is an important step for all sides ahead of further negotiations to reach the COC.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration on the Conduct (DOC) of parties in the South China Sea. The officials said that looking into the future, all sides should continue to fully and effectively implement the DOC.
Among the achievements of the meeting were also a pilot hotline platform for top diplomats, as well as an update of the 2016-2018 work plan.
