The forum was seen as the chance to promote the Belt and Road initiative before an influential audience in Manhattan and also serve as an opportunity to deliver an update on a 100-day economic plan set out at April's meeting in Florida between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump.
