The death toll has spiraled to 17 after a landslide in Bijie City, southwest China's Guizhou Province on Monday, local authorities said at a press conference on Tuesday. 18 people are still missing.
As of 4:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday, rescuers found 10 people, including 17 who died and eight injured.
The injured have been sent to hospital.
The landslide occurred around 10:40 a.m. local time on Monday in Zhangjiawan Township, Nayong County, which has affected 34 households.
Over 600,000 cubic meters of rocks and mud rolled 200 meters downhill and hit a village. After the landslide, a total of 195 people from 66 households were evacuated.
A relief fund of 2.5 million yuan (379,100 U.S. dollars) has been allocated following the disaster.
