(ECNS)--The Palace Museum started official renovation on Yangxin Dian, or the Hall of Mental Cultivation, in the Forbidden City on Sept. 3.
A tin box with a dragon pattern was removed from the ridge of the hall. The box is believed to be a talisman intended to bring luck and ward off evil. Other metal boxes have been found in the structures of 30 other halls in the palace.
Yangxin Dian was built in the Jiajing Period (1522-1566) during the Ming Dynasty. Starting from the Yongzheng Period in the following Qing Dynasty, Yangxin Dian was a political decision-making center and the residence of eight Qing emperors.
The renovation project is expected to be finished before June 2020.
