Here's what you need to know about famed author Jin Yong
Jin Yong, pen name of Louis Cha Leung-yung, is China's most celebrated martial arts novelist and essayist. Tributes pour in for the literary giant, who passed away in Hong Kong at 94 on Oct. 30.
He was born in Zhejiang Province in 1924 and moved to Hong Kong in the 1940s as a Ta Kung Pa journalist. Cha later co-founded the Hong Kong daily newspaper Ming Pao and served as its first editor-in-chief.
Between 1955 to 1972, Cha wrote 15 works, which has made him the grandfather of Chinese martial arts, or wuxia, fiction. His works have enjoyed wide popularity in Chinese communities worldwide with over 100 million copies sold and countless adaptations into media ranging from films to video games.
He was universally regarded as the most influential Chinese martial arts novelist of the 20th century.
