(ECNS) -- The Interdepartmental Counter Terrorism Unit (ICTU) of the Hong Kong Security Bureau held a large-scale anti-terrorism drill on Monday.
The drill was code-named Powersky. And 270 officers from six disciplined services took part in Lei Yue Mun Park, Shau Kei Wan.
Officers demonstrated the process of searching for containers, subduing terrorists and disposing of explosives.
The police deployed helicopters, hazmat disposal vehicles, special supporting ambulances and other large equipment.
It was the first exercise conducted since the ICTU was established last April, said Under Secretary for Security Sonny Au.
It aimed to enhance coordination among the unit and public awareness of counter-terrorism efforts.
Au said the current terrorist threat level in Hong Kong remained moderate.
Any change in the terrorist threat level would be disclosed to the public immediately.
The ICTU was established on April 23, 2018, with 43 officers from six disciplined services.
It provides an Interdepartmental counter-terrorism platform on top of the existing counter-terrorism system.
