(ECNS) -- The main part of the Nepali Bheri Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project constructed by China Railway Group Limited was completed Tuesday.
The project aims to divert water from the Bheri River into the Babai River to balance flood and drought problems.
The project's main part is a 12.2-kilometer tunnel with a diameter of 4.2 meters.
It will provide irrigation to 51,000 hectares of land in Banke and Bardiya districts and alleviate local food shortages.
About 10,000 villagers gathered to watch the celebrating ceremony.
