(ECNS)--A 1,800-ton steel box cofferdam that aids in foundation construction of Lingdingyang Bridge's west tower has been put into place.
It is a milestone in building a major project to support development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao bay area.
The cofferdam is 17.6 meters tall and 2.5 meters thick.
Lingdingyang Bridge, with a main span of 1,666 meters, will have a tower standing 270 meters tall, the highest in the world across water.
The bridge is a major component of the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Bridge complex that will connect two major cities on the Pearl River Delta when opened in 2024.
Other parts include a 6.8-km tunnel and Zhongshan Bridge with a main span of 580 meters.
