(ECNS) -- A super-tall bridge inaugurated on Monday will connect Guizhou Province's industrialized north to its mountainous, less developed south.
The 2,135m-long Pingtang Bridge supported by three towers and numerous cables will open to traffic on January 1.
The bridge, which serves as a major connection on the Pingtang-Luodian Expressway, reduces travel time between the two cities from two and a half hours to about one hour.
Construction of the cable-stayed bridge started in April 2016 and cost 1.5 billion yuan ($214 million).
Its tallest tower is 332 meters, equivalent to a 110-story skyscraper, making it the world's tallest reinforced concrete bridge tower.
